FONTES

Introduction

The FONTES (FOstering New TEchniques for Social integration through Sport) project is a European initiative under the Erasmus+ Sport 2025 programme that uses sport as a tool for social integration and intercultural cooperation. Through the collaboration of sports organisations, educational institutions, and community stakeholders from six European countries, the project aims to support young people with migrant backgrounds and individuals at risk of social exclusion. FONTES promotes the values of equality, inclusion, and active participation by developing innovative educational tools and activities designed for multicultural environments and diverse social communities.

Project Summary

The FONTES project is implemented within the framework of the Erasmus+ Sport programme, with a duration of 30 months and a total budget of €400,000. Its main objective is to promote social integration through sport, focusing on young people with migrant backgrounds and communities facing social and cultural challenges. The project brings together seven organisations from Belgium, Greece, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Portugal, working collaboratively to develop and implement innovative educational practices.

As part of the project, a digital training platform will be created, providing educational materials, methodologies, and practical tools for coaches, volunteers, and sports organisations operating in multicultural environments. In addition, training activities, pilot actions, and international sports events will be organised, involving more than 1,000 young participants. Through these activities, FONTES seeks to strengthen intercultural dialogue, social cohesion, and equal participation opportunities for all, regardless of cultural or religious background. The project also promotes European values such as inclusion, non-discrimination, gender equality, and active citizenship through sport.

Project Objectives

1. Development of Knowledge and Research on Social Integration through Sport

The project aims to collect best practices, analyse the needs of different communities, and create a research framework regarding the use of sport as a means of social integration and intercultural dialogue.

2. Creation of a Digital Educational Platform

An online training platform will be developed, including educational materials, methodologies, videos, and practical tools for coaches, volunteers, and organisations operating in multicultural environments. The platform will also utilise artificial intelligence tools to adapt the training process to different social contexts.

3. Training and Empowerment of Coaches and Organisations

The programme will train at least 40 coordinators and coaches, enabling them to acquire skills in managing multicultural groups and promoting social inclusion through sport.

4. Pilot Implementation of the Programme in Communities

The training programme will be piloted in different European communities with the participation of at least 1,000 young people aged 14–35. Through the pilot implementation, the effectiveness of the tools and methodologies will be evaluated, while feedback will be collected for further improvement.

5. Promotion of Intercultural Dialogue through Sports Events

The project will organise international multicultural sports activities and tournaments that will bring together young people from different religions, cultures, and social backgrounds, strengthening mutual respect and social cohesion.

6. Dissemination of Results and Sustainability

FONTES aims to establish a strong European cooperation network among sports organisations, educational institutions, and local communities, ensuring the long-term exploitation and sustainability of the project results through websites, social media, events, and conferences.
