Sport and Prevention of Emerging Eating Disorders

Project Summary:

The SPEED project aims to prevent eating disorders through sport. Preliminary research will be carried out through interviews and focus groups in six European countries. The project will produce multilingual digital e-learning materials for coaches, parents, teachers and athletes on nutrition, sport and body image.

Coaches will train athletes and students on these topics. Teachers will integrate them into the classroom. Each multi-sport team will organize two meetings with a psychologist and nutritionist for parents and athletes.

The project aims to involve around:
- 150 coaches.
- 500 athletes
- 500 students
- 500 parents
and to reach about 2,000 young people aged 9-14 years old.

Project Objectives:

- Prevention of emerging eating disorders in children and adolescents
- Education through sport to promote positive body image
- Cooperation between sports clubs and schools
- Development of e-learning tools and information campaigns
- Strengthening the role of coaches, teachers and parents as prevention agents
